My name is Crystal Allenton and I am so happy to be a part of the Hazel Wolf family! I love singing, dancing, and playing instruments with students as we explore music and other performance art that celebrates stories and culture. I am mom to three teens and a goofy golden retriever. In my free time I enjoy watching Storm Basketball, musicals, the opera, and even the ballet (where my own daughter is training for a professional career). We will be having a lot of opportunities to grow as artists this year and to share music and drama with families and community members. Personal Message

I grew up listening to the sound of my mother teaching piano in my living room. Every day after school, I knew I had to come in the back door quietly, sneak around the corner, and dash up the stairs to my room. I heard her patience and her persistence. I heard her firmly correct and redirect. Most importantly, I heard the joy she had at every little success.  Ultimately, I think that joy is why I became a teacher.

My home was in Omaha, NE. In terms of school I learned math from nuns, how to question from Jesuits, and everything else from the giant public school downtown. I went on to study Television Engineering at the University of Nebraska at Omaha for a few semesters. Leaving that behind, I played music and travelled until school felt right. In 1992, I landed at the University of Southern California. I graduated with a major in Comparative Literature and Art History.

After working in theatre (sound design, acting, and administration) and photography, I met my wife in a book club here in Seattle. Kristin was (and is) a teacher.  The stories she brought home were far more interesting than my work stories. Her joy reminded me of my mother’s, and it brought me full circle into teaching. I got my Masters degree from the University of Washington in 2006 and started teaching 4th and 5th grade at Coe Elementary. During all this, my family has grown to include two phenomenal daughters, Ruth and Iris.

Hello Hazel Wolf families!
I am excited to be starting my 8th year at Hazel Wolf.  During my time here I've seen my oldest daughter graduate from HW and move on to Nathan Hale, and my youngest daughter is a current 7th grader.  We also welcomed a baby boy in December, and I am already looking forward to the day he becomes a Hazel Wolf pup!

Middle School Math is my passion-not a sentence you probably read every day!  I spend most waking hours during the school year thinking hard about how to make mathematics interesting, accessible, thought provoking, and fun.  It can be a challenge, but I, like all Hazel Wolf teachers, attack it with energy, enthusiasm, and endless drive to take the work to the next level, for our students, your children, and the community at large.

This is my 5th year at this amazing school.  I teach science here at Hazel Wolf K-8 because I LOVE it!

Science is fun and fascinating and at times Phenomenal (ask your student).  This year each student will be using science concepts to discover the answers to some of life's mysteries.

I love teaching 2nd grade at Hazel Wolf K-8 and have been doing it since 2013!

I graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a bachelor's degree in Music in 2009 and a Master of Arts in Teaching in 2010.

I worked for AmeriCorps in Santa Rosa, CA until 2012 and then started my career at SPS in 2013.

Hello, I am Laurie Caltrider and am a Reading Support teacher. Before Hazel Wolf, I spent 2 years teaching 2nd and 3rd grade at John Stanford International School, 3 years at Coe Elementary, teaching second grade, and 11 years in the Kent School District, teaching kindergarten, first, second, and fourth grades. I’m looking forward to a great year!

I have been teaching at Hazel Wolf since the fall of 2012! In that time, I have taught 1st grade, 2nd grade, and 5th grade. I am a National Boards certified teacher and have a Masters in Education from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California Davis. I love teaching elementary-aged students, and feel incredibly lucky to work at a school with values rooted in STEM education and environmental science. Caring for the environment is one of my passions in life, and I find it so rewarding to be in a position to teach young people to be stewards of their environment. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, live music, travel, & hiking.

I have taught in Seattle Schools since 2002 and have been at Hazel Wolf since the beginning of the program.  I love my job!  I can't imagine a better place to come to work every day.
