    New Information
    1. Breakfast and Lunch Information - Breakfast and lunch are available to students each day at no cost.
    AM cohorts may come to the lunchroom when they arrive and eat between 7:40 and 7:55.
    Lunches will also be available to take home when students are released at 10:45. These are placed outside the back door, by the front steps, by the playground gate, and by the buses.
    PM cohorts may come to the lunchroom from 11:15 - 11:35 to eat lunch when they arrive. They can also pick up a breakfast or lunch when leaving at 2:30. These are placed outside the back door, by the front steps, by the playground gate, and by the buses

    2. Hazel Wolf K-2 Primary Parents - As we all know, this year has been a very different one than we would typically experience at Hazel Wolf. We have appreciated everyone’s patience and wanted to let you know about a recent decision we have had to make.
    As we enter our last 7 weeks of school, we need to make use of our reading support staff to focus on our students who require instruction at or below the District grade level expectations. This means that we will not be able to provide small reading groups for Kindergarten through 2nd grade students who are above reading grade level. This is not our normal operational choice at Hazel Wolf, but we are limited in our resources and time due to the nature of the hybrid school day.
    The good news is that we have increased our K-2 literacy support for the 2021/2022 school year. We have added an additional .5 staff member that will enable us to provide reading support to all students at their appropriate academic level.
    Again, we appreciate your support for all our students in our community.

    3. MS Daily Health Screening - Students under 18 years of age must have permission to complete their own Daily Health Screening. All parents/guardians of students' grade 6-12 who receive the Screening (all checked as “i” in PowerSchool) will receive the guardian approval question.
    The guardian student approval question is located just under the question:
    “Do you plan to come to School/Site today? The responder can then click: “I want to update the delivery preferences or grant my student permission to complete the screening”
    Then, they can grant permission by answering the following question: “I believe my student understands the questions being asked in the Daily Health Screening and grant permission for Seattle Public Schools to accept their response. ”

    4. All students attending in-person learning MUST have a completed “COVID-19 Informed Consent and Family Information” form on file. Students who do not have a signed form on file by this Friday (4/30) will not be allowed to continue in-person learning until a signed form is submitted. The form (available in multiple languages) can be found by clicking this link (Spring 2021 Return to School Forms) and scrolling to the bottom of the page. Paper or digitally signed forms are acceptable and can be returned to your child's teacher, the front office, or emailed to hazelwolf@seattleschools.org.

    5. Pups to Wolves Celebration – If your child has attended Hazel Wolf K-8 since Kindergarten, please send a Kindergarten aged picture to Ms. Nelsen.

    6. Staff Appreciation Week is this week, May 3-7 -- Show your teachers and staff how much they are loved by sending some notes and/or videos of appreciation this week. Also, the PTSA has organized a few fun events for our staff - including a Car Wash on Friday, May 7! We need more volunteers for both AM and PM shifts to make this run smoothly! If you are able to help and show your support, please sign up here! Middle school students are welcome with parent supervision.

    7. Join Next Year's PTSA Board -- A strong PTSA is important to ensure our school community can remain engaged and thrive. Now is when we come together and find volunteers to serve on our PTSA Executive Board and General Board for the upcoming school year. Here are the board positions open for the 2021-22 school year:

    8. Goodwill Truck Fundraiser Results – Our Wolfpack filled not one, but TWO Goodwill trucks today, earning $1,200 for our PTSA! Thank you to our 6th grade Navigator group for spending their afternoon sorting, lifting, and carrying donations-- ensuring a successful day. Thank you everyone!

    9. LIBRARY SESSIONS: Dr. V is hoping to use our online system as a way to continue to get books to students. Directions for putting books on hold can be found on the Hazel Wolf library website.
    Remote Students: books on hold and pick them up on Wednesdays at Outdoor Library.
    In-person students in grades 3-8 can expect to get their books delivered on a cart once they put them on hold following this schedule:

    1. Hazel Wolf K-8 Snack Drive – You can drop off snacks at the school during office hours M-F. Look for a bin outside by the entrance for snacks.

    ALL ITEMS MUST BE INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED, NOT HOME MADE, AND IN A BOX THAT IS NOT OPENED. NO LIQUIDS. Please purchase items that do not require any utensils. Also, food items that are very easy to clean up and not likely to spill. If you purchase gummy snacks, if possible make sure they are kosher or Halal. The Welches fruit snacks are neither of these and are not vegetarian. Thank you!

    2. COVID Emergency Relief Fund - Please consider making a monetary donation of any size at: https://hazelwolfk8.ejoinme.org/covid19fund These funds are distributed by Principal Nelsen to HW families directly impacted by the pandemic.

    3. In-kind Donations for HW Families – The PTSA continues to organize and disperse donations to families in our community who seek additional support.     4. SPS Meal Sites Open for ALL SPS Families – The time for lunch pickup is changing to 10:45 – 1:15 pm.  Monday-Friday.  Pick up sack breakfasts and lunches prepared by our central kitchen.
