  1. Derek Grandbois – Mr. Grandbois, previously one of our 3rd grade teachers is now our Head Teacher for the rest of the year. A Head Teacher, is for the most part an Assistant Principal, but not certified to evaluate staff. We are excited to have him in this role and fill the vacancy Ms. Madaffari left when she moved back to Georgia.
  2. Spring Musical Information for 4th-8th Grade Families – Keep an eye out for an invitation to an informational meeting during conference week to find out more about our spring musical: Disney The Little Mermaid Jr. We will discuss the audition process, how to help with tech and stage crew, and chat about some needs we will have for parents/guardians/students like costuming and set design.
  3. Veteran’s Day Family Slideshow – There will be a slideshow sharing photos of Military Veterans from student families at the Veteran’s Day Assembly on November 9th. If you have a military veteran in your family, and you’d like to share their photo, please send the digital photo file to Ms. Ferguson on or before November 4th: bjferguson@seattleschools.org; and please include the following information: Family Member’s Name, Branch of Military, Relationship to Student, Student’s Name and Grade. Further details about the assembly coming soon!
  4. Parking – If you park on 117th across from the back of the school, please walk down to the crosswalk at the corner to cross. This keeps all the members of community safe.

Middle School Announcements

The Middle School Staff would like to recognize the work students have done over the past month with getting to class on time! Students are focused on moving between classes efficiently and the number of tardies recorded continues to drop.

If you are curious whether or not your child is being marked tardy and what exactly would happen if they are, here is the procedure we are following:

  • A robocall is sent each time a student is late to class. Tardies that occur during the school day (not 1st thing in the morning to Pack) are counted towards total tardies.
  • If a student is marked late 3 times within a 2-week period, a teacher will check in with them as well as call home to help identify barriers and problem-solve reasons for being late. This may include making a plan with a specific teacher or brain-storming things to try.
  • If a student receives a 4th “late”, family and student will get another check-in and see what has been working and what is still causing a problem. The next step will also be discussed so everyone knows that a 5th tardy will lead to more focused intervention.
  • If a student receives a 5th tardy within the same 2-week period, a teacher will call the family again and set up a time to work individually with the student. This may be an after-school session, a Saturday session, or the teacher may coordinate with a counselor to set up a session during Office Hours. During this time, the student will reflect on what they have tried and what is still causing a problem. The teacher will help guide them to dig deeper, identify barriers that still exist and plan next steps so that students can gain ownership of the problem and of the solution.
