New Information

1. The Hazel Wolf Library Book Fair is Coming Up! Dr. V is looking for volunteers to help with the fair. Adult volunteers will be needed the week of June 6th -10th before school, after school , and at lunch recess. We will also open the Book Fair to families Wednesday afternoon and evening (3:45-6:00). If you are interested in helping out, Sign up to help with the Library Book Fair.
2. Thank you! – Thank you to everyone who donated to the Fill The Truck event. We raised $600 for the PTSA!
3. Bike to School Day – Students and parents are invited to join other kids nationwide for Bike to School Day on Friday, May 20. At the last event in 2019, we had 99 bikes parked at school in the morning. So get those bikes ready to ride! Let’s hit three figures this year and pack the rack!
   
   This year’s event will be bigger and better because we’re so excited to be able to have events again. Come out for a raffle, snacks and freebies to celebrate biking. Also the PTSA will be selling Hazel Wolf spirit gear and serving Starbucks coffee for parents to enjoy.
   
   Did you know May is National Bike Month? Want to get your kid active and excited about biking? We’ll have Bike Bingo handouts available on Monday (May 9) at the bike banner near the school front door.

4. Our beloved Yolanda Jackson from the Hazel Wolf office is out on medical leave for FMLA (for pulmonary/blood clot issues). We would like to show her the love and send her get well cards and art so she knows we miss her and care about her. Please drop off cards, pictures and art for her at the front office and we will deliver them to her.

Reminders

1. Field Day Volunteers – You know how many volunteers it takes to run field day? 75. We need volunteers to step up to make this event a success. Get your volunteer paperwork completed and Sign up as a volunteer
2. Multicultural Night – Wednesday, May 25th, 5-7pm. The middle-school Culture, Society, and Identity class in collaboration with the Parent Racial Equity Committee and the PTSA  are excited to invite you and your family to Multicultural Night on Wednesday, May 25th from 5-7pm, outside at Hazel Wolf.
   
   Bring a game, traditional clothing, a dish or something to share that is special to your family, culture, or heritage or just bring yourselves and come to celebrate our Hazel Wolf Community.

3. Family Skating Party – Join us for our school skate party at Lynnwood Bowl & Skate on Friday May 27th 5pm-7pm. Admission is $8 for skates & $12 for inlines. Contact Sabra Warren with questions or for scholarships: sabrahallphoto@gmail.com
4. BSA Scouting – Did you know that BSA Scouting isn’t just for boys? Where can girls (and other non-boys) go if they want to backpack 50 miles, learn to treat a broken leg, survive overnight in the wilderness, train to safely shoot a shotgun, and sleep in a snow cave they built themselves? Or make new friends while becoming leaders among their friends and community? Or even earn the rank of Eagle Scout? Troop 681, that’s where! 
   
   Troop 681 is an inclusive Scouts BSA (formerly Boy Scouts of America) troop located in North Seattle and is currently looking for new members. 6th graders and up are welcome to come check us out. 
5. Hazel Wolf K-8 Art Show – Want your artwork displayed at Hazel Wolf K-8?
   
   We will have an art showing in conjunction with the annual multi-cultural Potluck to be held on May 25.
   
   Open to ANY student with artwork made at home or school.
   
   K-5 students please submit Art to Ms. Mackin (in Art room 111) by Friday May 20, so name and title labels can be made beforehand)
   
   Middle School students submit artwork to Ms. Powers (in Art room 111)  by Friday May 20.
   
   First and Last name and grade level should be written or attached to the back of your art (with a pencil) and delivered to the art room (or office) by May 20.

6. PTSA Executive Board for 2022-2023 – Hazel Wolf PTSA Nominating Committee would like to announce the following board:

7. PTSA Spring General Membership Meeting Wednesday May 11th – Everyone is invited to join the final Hazel Wolf PTSA General Membership Meeting of the school year. We’ll be discussing the possible changes to the start times for Seattle Schools. Also, we will be voting to approve the 2022-23 Executive Board and budget. This is a meeting you don’t want to miss! The meeting is on Wednesday May 11th and begins at 6:30pm.
   
   ***Please note that the date of the meeting has been changed to allow time to discuss start time changes before the School Board vote on 5/18.

   After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
8. Spring Assessments – We will be returning to our regular Spring Assessment schedule this year.  These are assessments which lets our school know how we are doing instructionally, and also provides valuable information about individual students. 
   
   The Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) for 3rd – 8th graders will cover ELA and Math (end of May)
   
   The Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS) for 5th and 8th graders (May/June)
   
   Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) which will cover reading and math for K-2 (May)
   
   More specific date information will come from your classroom teachers.
9. Hazel Wolf Snack Drive! We are super low on snacks! Amazon Wish list for the snack drive. We  need snacks for all classrooms.
   
   You can always buy in person and drop off. Please note that MOST gummies are not Kosher or Halal (like the popular Welch’s fruit snacks, they contain pork in the gelatin).  You can have it shipped directly to the school or drop it off at school. You do not need to buy through Amazon but if you do, please set your Amazon Smile to:

10. Wolf Pack Spotlight – We are launching the Wolf Pack Spotlight. This is a new way we can connect and spotlight members of our community. Students and their family create short videos (1-3 mins. max) sharing something that is important to them (traditions, food, games, holidays, family stories, etc.). A few students video clips will be combined to create a video that will be shared in class and with our community. This will help us learn about and celebrate our school community. We aim to create these each month during the school year. Please email wolfpackspotlight@gmail.com with any questions.

11. Summer Bridge Program – The UW Women’s Center to help plan our annual Summer Bridge Program Rising 9th and 10th grade. This program is a part of our high school college-readiness program, Making Connections, and runs for two weeks in July to help introduce rising 9th/10th graders to various career paths and aid them in developing academic and professional skills.  
    
    This year, the program will be held from July 11th – July 15th & July 18th – July 22nd from 11 am to 2 pm. As of now, we are planning a hybrid format with both online and in-person activities. These activities will provide students with the opportunity to explore different career opportunities by hearing and learning from real industry workers. In past years, we have visited offices such as Facebook, Google, Sound Transit, and Miller Hull Architecture. Our program has a particular focus on STEM paths but is open to all interested and curious students. 
12. Bishop Blanchet Summer Camps for Rising K – 9th Graders – Soak in the summer fun at Bishop Blanchet! Registration is open for in-person camps in athletics, academics, and the arts at BBHS. 
    
    Athletics Camps run throughout the summer and include cross country, cheer (K-8), basketball, flag football, freshman football, lacrosse, soccer, and volleyball. 
    
    The Discovery Learning Camp (gr 5 – 8) runs July 18 – 22. This is a full-day immersive experience where students choose to attend three class sessions in STEM, art, music, drama, social justice, outdoor activities, and more. Lunch supervision is provided.
    
    The BBHS Study Skills Camp (gr 5 – 9) runs August 15 – 18. This camp helps students develop time management, organization, study strategies, and planning skills to increase success in the classroom.

13. .Joining the parent Racial Equity Committee – We are looking for Black, Brown, Indigenous family members to join this team! While we do have members who are White, we intentionally focus on the voices of Black, Brown and Indigenous families and students.
