Welcome Letter 2023-24
Welcome Back to the 2023-24 School Year!
Dear Hazel Wolf K-8 Families,
Welcome to the upcoming 2023-2024 school year at Hazel Wolf K-8! We’re excited about our outstanding E-STEM program we have developed, and we continue to build on our accomplishments.
Our work on racial equity has been a large part of this current year and we look forward to continuing our journey into next year and beyond. We currently have 741 students assigned for the 2023-2024 school year. This means we will continue to have three classrooms at every grade. If your child has any special needs we should be aware of when making placements, please let me know via e-mail or if you have more to discuss, we are happy to set up a meeting.
Our Fall Open House will be on August 30, with a start of school on September 6. Kindergarten will begin on September 11.
For Kindergarten Families
This year Jump Start is not funded by the district, but we have committed to funding a shortened three day Jump Start experience for your child. These three days will be August 22–24 at 9 a.m.-12 p.m. This is a free, half-day experience for the students to learn about their new school. During Jump Start, your child will meet the kindergarten teachers, make new friends, become familiar with the school building, and learn school routines. Be on the lookout for additional information.
Fall/Start of School Schedule for Kindergarten
September 6-8: No school for K students. Family Connection Meetings-each kindergarten student will come in with his/her/their parent or guardian to meet with the teacher in order to get to know each other better and to conduct initial start of the year assessments. Each family will be assigned a day/time in mid-August.
For Middle School Families
Please use the following link to sign up for electives for next year. Typically, students have 4 core classes (ELA, SS, Sc, and Math), and 2 electives. If you have additional special education or ELL supports, you may only have one elective. Elective Choices Deadline is May 31st for priority to electives.
Parent Sponsored Opportunities To Connect
Our PTSA actively supports the school and provides many opportunities for families to get involved and connect. The PTSA website (hazelwolfk8.org) has updated info about our events, volunteer opportunities and how to join the PTSA. Also, you can learn various ways to stay connected with the PTSA and our school community– such as how to sign up for PTSA updates and links to join grade-level Facebook groups. Be sure to sign up for updates to learn.
Our school office will close on July 3rd, and will not reopen until August 14th when our administrative secretary returns to work. At that time, you will be sent grade level welcome letters, and additional information about the start of school. Supply lists will be emailed to all families, and posted on our website by the middle of June. Have a wonderful summer and we look forward to seeing you and your child in August at our Open House.
Sincerely,
Deborah Nelsen, Principal
