Message from Dr. Breuder:

Staffing adjustments: October 1st is a day in Seattle Public Schools that looks at the important “October 1st count,” which is the attendance count of students that determines staffing for the remainder of the school year.  The current staffing was determined last spring and was based on the projected enrollment of the school.  If the October 1st count is well over or well under the projected enrollment number in the spring, then staffing adjustments (additions or reductions) can occur.  Last spring, the projected enrollment number for Hazel Wolf was 734.  The October 1st count at Hazel Wolf was 672, which is considerably less than the projected enrollment.  Due to this decrease in enrollment and attendance, we are looking at staffing reductions at Hazel Wolf, which means we will have staff that are displaced from our school.  We do not yet know where those reductions will occur, as there is a displacement process that we are going through, but we will announce these changes as soon as they are finalized.  We know that this is a disruption in programming and we know there are impacts to the school.  We are doing our best to minimize those disruptions and impacts.  Thank you for your patience as we work through this process with the Hazel Wolf staff.
