Message from Dr. Breuder:
November is National Adoption Month: We know families look many different ways, and we also know families are created by different pathways. I was adopted as an infant from the Philippines and was raised in Seattle. I am very close to my family and feel so fortunate for my upbringing and being surrounded by caring and loving people. That said, I do not look like my family, and I know there are assumptions made about me based on the color of my skin and the differences between me and my family members. (I have a “twin” brother, as we are the same age, but look absolutely nothing alike….) This perspective has been a big part of my own identity development and how I interact with others, as well as how I think about community, inclusivity, and empathy. There are so many things that we don’t know about each other, so taking the time to build relationships and understand stories and backgrounds is so important to building a strong community. This month, I celebrate those stories of fellow adoptees, recognizing the challenges and triumphs of our unique community.
Middle School News:
Last week we had the election for the Hazel Wolf Student Leadership Team. Candidates gave speeches on Wednesday and middle school students voted in Packs. We are so proud of all of the candidates. Please help congratulate the following Student Leadership Officers:
Co-Presidents: Austyn Sienkiewicz and Griffin Weaver
Vice President: Nejat Mustefa
Secretary: Jillian Acacio
PTSA Announcements and Events
The Wolf Pack did it again – Auuuoo! Our first annual Harvest Festival (Oct. 27th) was a huge success! Hundreds of families were able to enjoy pizza, snacks and drinks while stopping by one of our many activity stations. From face painting to pumpkin decorating, pressing your own cider to…of course…all the treats, it was a great turnout. Thank you to everyone who came, and to all our amazing volunteers who helped make it happen. A special thanks to our PTSA Event Planning leads, Diana Wong and Maia Vogler, who really know how to bring our community together!
More thanks to everyone who supported our Winter Clothing & Ski Swap yesterday! We look forward to sharing photos and more wrap-up info soon.
Are you connected with any businesses that want to sponsor our 2024 Blue Envelope Direct Appeal Campaign, launching November 12th? Many sponsor tiers are available, and they come with great perks – like a company logo on our Spirit Gear t-shirts! Please reach out to fundraising@hazelwolfk8.org with any connections you have, or for more information.
