Message from Dr. Breuder:
This Monday is a holiday in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. At Hazel Wolf, we are holding three assemblies over the next two weeks, two for elementary, and one for middle school. These assemblies are to honor Dr. King, and to also help our students consider how we are all continuing the important work of Dr. King and other civil rights leaders. Hazel Wolf staff are committed to being an anti-racist organization. As such, the racial equity work is infused throughout our practice as educators. I believe in all students having access to high-quality instruction and learning opportunities. As educators, in order to ensure all students have these opportunities, we have to learn about ourselves and how we interact and engage with students. This includes considering our own biases (I talk about this at the volunteer orientations, as well) and how/when these biases come out. This includes considering microaggressions and how we respond to them….to students, to families, and to colleagues. How we interact with each other as adults is something our children see and learn from…. we are role models, even when we are not at our best moments.
This Monday is also the inauguration of President of the United States. As I said back in November, we are all feeling many emotions….challenging for some, and celebratory for others. It is important to continue to be strong role models for our students and for each other. We are committed to our students having spaces where they are safe and respected. As a community, we are focused on being curious, caring, connected, and supported. Our students look to us as the adults in their lives. WE demonstrate kindness, compassion, empathy. WE teach our students how to treat each other while having conversations of differing beliefs. WE show how to care for each other and for our community.
Parking lot reminder: Please help us maintain our good relationships with our neighbors and surrounding businesses by being careful and cautious in the Whizz Kids parking lot. We have had reports of parents speeding through the lot, which endangers the children that attend Whizz Kids (not to mention anyone else in the lot). Thank you for your help in this safety matter.
I am hosting a Principal Chat on Thursday, January 30th at 12:00 (noon). This will be online, and I will record the session. This is an opportunity for parents/guardians to drop into the virtual meeting to chat with Hazel Wolf admin. Here is the Teams link: Principal Chat 1.30.25

The time for new students to register to attend Hazel Wolf for the 2025-2026 school year is coming up soon! The window to submit a CHOICE FORM application for an Option School is February 1 through February 28. We want to reach out and give a special welcome to families who may be new to the country and who speak languages other than English. Do you or your relatives, neighbors, or friends speak a language other than English and are interested in enrolling at Hazel Wolf? If you do, contact Rachel Projansky at raprojansky@seattleschools.org and the Multilingual Team will respond.
Multilingual Enrollment Night is Thursday, February 6th from 5:30-7:30 in the Hazel Wolf Library. Multilingual families enrolling new students are invited to come to get computer access, help from interpreters, enrollment specialists and staff.
Message from Mr. Zetterberg:
“Our library now has an area for multilingual books. A big THANK YOU to the Multilingual team for developing this collection and donating it to our school library! We have books in many languages, some bilingual with English text, some entirely in your home languages that your child can check out and bring home to read together with you, and some language learning books as well! I will continue to add new resources to this collection and welcome your requests and recommendations! We hope this can be a helpful resource to connect your children with their linguistic and cultural identities.”
