Message from Dr. Breuder:
Staff Appreciation Week: Thank you so much for all the love that was showered upon the staff during Staff Appreciation Week! We are so thankful for such a wonderful and supportive community. Thank you.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms and mom-figures! I got to see my own mom for a brief time early this morning as I took my parents to the airport. I am so grateful for all the moms in my life, and I am in awe of my own children who made me a mom. As my kids get older, I cherish even more the time we have together. They are so busy (not to mention my son is away at college), so even the brief moments we have together are so important. (I know that sentiment was very different when my kids were babies and toddlers, but as cliché as it sounds….time goes by so quickly. It does seem like just yesterday that my 19- and 16-year-olds were in elementary school.) Happy Mother’s Day.
Earth Day! Please see the attached pictures of student work from various grades across the school. These are just a few of the wonderful Earth Day projects at Hazel Wolf!
Testing this week:
- SBA (Smarter Balanced Assessments) and WCAS (Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science) make-ups will continue this week for students in grades 3-8.
- MAP (Measurement of Academic Progress) testing begins this week for students in Grades K-8. This testing window is open May 12-30. You will get your child’s testing schedule directly from their teacher(s).
Message from Mr. Zetterberg:
Book Bonanza will take place June 9-13 in the Library.
- Book Donation: Do you have gently used picture books, early readers, chapter books, or Young Adult novels you no longer need? Donate them to the Book Bonanza! The Hazel Wolf library will begin accepting book donations starting June 2.
- Book Bonanza: As a result of generous donations from PTSA, the community, and student families, this free event allows all K-8 students to select books to keep! Classes will browse the HUGE selection of books June 9-13 during class library times, lunch recesses, and before and after school. Friday afternoon we will encourage students to revisit the Bonanza and select more books to ensure families have enough to read all summer! There is an opportunity to help with setup and cleanup for this event. Sign-up link coming soon!
Message from Ms. Sullivan:
Field Day Volunteer Sign-Up: Field Day is Friday, June 13th! We are running 4 sessions with less stations, but more space and crowd favorite activities to take advantage of that space. Below is the link to sign up as a volunteer during each grade levels’ session. Ms. Sullivan and Ms. Jackson will be checking to make sure you are cleared to volunteer for that day. If your volunteer clearance will expire BEFORE June 13th, please renew it ASAP! The deadline to sign up is FRIDAY, MAY 30th, so that we can clear everyone 2 weeks ahead of the event as per SPS policy.
The link below will take you to the sign-up for the Field Day sessions. Please email Ms. Sullivan (rasullivan@seattleschools.org) for any questions, and volunteer clearance questions to Ms. Jackson (yljackson@seattleschools.org).

Fill out one survey for each of your children who attend Hazel Wolf. Click this link for a summary of previous community funding conversations
- Our living wall was featured in The Seattle Times! Click here to read the article about crafting vertical gardens. Huge thanks to parent volunteer Capri Jensen and our community of green guardians for bringing our living wall back to life!

Visit https://hazelwolfk8.org/volunteer/ for other opportunities to get involved with the PTSA next year.
- Lost & Found Reminder: The weather is warming up, and there are lots of hoodies and coats finding their way to our lost and found. Located just off the front office area, parents may access the lost and found anytime during office hours; please check in at the front desk. Students are encouraged to check it before or after school. Join the Hazel Wolf K-8 Community Group on Facebook for regular updates including upcoming purge dates, photos and videos of lost items.
