All School Announcements
Message from Dr. Breuder:
I hope you had a restful mid-winter break! I went on a mom/daughter trip to Cabo San Lucas this week with my daughter, Gia. She is a senior this year, so I was so happy to spend some time with her (and soak up some sun) before she heads off to college in the fall.
Last week we had an all-school assembly to celebrate Lunar New Year. Ms. Sophie and her 1st-grade class presented information about Lunar New Year, which included a song for the whole school. Additionally, we had lion dancers from the Mak Fai Kung Fu and Lion Dance Association at the assembly. (Thanks to the PTSA for providing funding for the lion dancers to come to Hazel Wolf!)
We value our diverse student body and are committed to supporting our students who are fasting during Ramadan. Culinary Services will provide Iftar meals for students who are fasting and unable to eat during our regular service times. Iftar is the meal eaten at sunset to break the daily fast. We are serving these meals from Feb. 23-March 19. Students can pick up these meals in the afternoon at 2:00pm to eat at home. Please contact Gloria Okada, Hazel Wolf K-8 Kitchen Manager, at gcokada@seattleschools.org if you would like your child to bring home Iftar meals during Ramadan.
This next month of school will include an important part of planning for next school year: the budget and staffing process. We will receive our allocations for budget (dollars) and staffing (people) this week. (Allocations are based on projected enrollment for next year.) We then plan for next year with those allocations. What we have seen in the last two years during this process have been reductions in both budget and staffing. We won’t know what our allocations look like until this week, after which time we have a quick turnaround to make sure we create a budget that utilizes our resources effectively and efficiently. This process goes through the Building Leadership Team (BLT) and is also done in partnership with the PTSA. Stay tuned for more information as we enter this budget season.
