Message from Dr. Breuder:
Happy Birthday, Dr. King! Last week students participated in assemblies for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. After the assemblies, students were sent off with discussion questions and prompts for continuing the lessons of Dr. King.
- Dr. King believed small acts of kindness change the world. What is one kind thing you can do today for someone in your class, on the playground, on the bus, or anywhere else at school?
- We learned that empathy means understanding how someone else feels. When have you used your “empathy superpower”? What did you do that helped someone feel better? \
- Dr. King dreamed of kids learning, playing, and growing together. What is one way you can invite someone in to play, to sit with you, or to join your game or group?
- Dr. King believed everyone has greatness inside them. What is one strength or gift you have that helps make school a better place?
- How can we show belief in our classmates, even if we don’t know then well or agree with them? What are examples of small actions that build trust, kindness, and connection?
Please remember the words of Dr. King as we continue to spread his message of love and peace. “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
BIPOC Community Connection Night: It was great to see families and students at the BIPOC Community Connection meeting last week. It was really great to meet with families and hear about experiences and hopes for our students (and families) of color at Hazel Wolf. Thanks to the PTSA for sponsoring this event and creating this important space. We look forward to the next meeting.
Class picture day: Yuen Lui Studio will photograph class group photos at Hazel Wolf K-8 Thursday, January 29
- Class Group photos: one complimentary 8×10 print is included with any fall portrait order placed by January 29 (max one per student). Class group prints will be delivered to the school in March. We will share a link to order additional prints once the class group prints are ready for print.
