Message from Dr. Breuder:
I have had many questions about the school’s response if immigration officials show up to Hazel Wolf. The guidance from SPS is as follows:
- We will not let them into our building. They are not allowed on our campus.
- An administrator will talk to them if they are outside.
- School administration will contact the SPS legal department for further guidance and provide them with the warrant if one exists.
- Additionally, we put the school into a shelter-in-place, which means activities in school happen as normal; all entrances to the building are locked and nobody is allowed to enter or leave until we are assured that it is safe to do so by local authorities.
The safety and security of our community is of utmost importance. We will continue to follow SPS protocols to make sure our community members are safe. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
Class picture day: Yuen Lui Studio will photograph class group photos at Hazel Wolf K-8 Thursday, January 29
- Class Group photos: one complimentary 8×10 print is included with any fall portrait order placed by January 29 (max one per student). Class group prints will be delivered to the school in March. We will share a link to order additional prints once the class group prints are ready for print.
- Contact Yuen Lui Studio with any questions

Musical: Hazel Wolf presents, “Into The Woods Jr.”, a 60-minute musical about fairy tale characters’ quests to see their wishes come true!
Shows will be Friday February 6th at 5:30, and Saturday February 7th at 1pm and 5pm.
Tickets will be $5 and available for purchase via QR code during the week of the show and at the door.
Middle School:
Second semester schedules: Second semester starts next week on Wednesday, January 28th. Student schedules will be passed out in Packs on Wednesday morning. Students can also access their schedules in The Source by Tuesday, January 27th.
Please note that we will not be making elective changes to schedules. Student input was taken earlier this year, and we have tried to make sure students get one of their top choice electives during the year. We cannot guarantee that they will get one of those choices, but we have tried our hardest.
We are looking forward to 2nd-semester!
D&D Volunteers needed: Interested in nurturing young gamers? Our middle school D&D club is in need of assistance; Gondor calls for aid! If you enjoy middle schoolers, know your way around D&D (5e and current) and are available Monday afternoons between 3:30 and 5:00 p.m. (or even part of that time) please contact Keri Rotton at klrotton@seattleschools.org. We have several new gamers this year who would benefit from extra help as they run their campaigns.
Hazel Wolf Music Showcase will take place on Wednesday, February 11th, starting at 6:00PM. It will feature performances from both the Middle School Band and the Middle School Orchestra, playing music they have been working on since the start of November. Performers should arrive by 5:30PM. Please join us to support our Band and Orchestra in their first concert of the year!
Middle School Dance: The ASB Council has moved the date for the next middle school dance. Please note the new date is Friday, March 27th, 6:00-8:00pm.
Athletics:
Basketball sign-ups are now closed.
Please note that students without a current physical on file will be removed from the roster.
Thank you for supporting Hazel Wolf athletics!

PTSA Announcements and Events
Neurodivergent Support Group: Hazel Wolf’s Neurodivergent Community Group would like to invite you to our next virtual parents gathering on Thursday, January 29 from 6pm to 8pm via Zoom. The group is a welcoming space for parents of neurodiverse children to connect, share experiences, and learn strategies for growth. Together, we build understanding, confidence, and community while advocating for our kids. Please RSVP here and contact Jenny with any questions.
K-5 Glow Dance: After last year’s successful event, the Glow Dance is back! Save the date for Friday, January 30 from 6pm to 8pm in the HW Cafetorium. Wear your best neon outfit and get ready to dance the night away. Snacks will be sold at the dance. Do your kids have favorite tunes? Keep your eye on our Instagram to make song requests in advance! We need help with set up, clean up, and concessions. Sign up to volunteer today!
Reflections Art Contest: Congratulations to all 2025-26 Reflections Art Contest participants! Your hard work and talent made a big impact on all of us! This year the Seattle Council PTSA received art from 14 schools and 95 artists to judge and advance on to the State level, with two of those pieces coming from our own Hazel Wolf students. Hazel Wolf will be hanging the art pieces during the Band and Orchestra concert on February 11 and will display the pieces in our glass case on the 2nd floor afterwards. We wish those artists advancing to Washington State PTA the best of luck!
Summer Camp Resources: If you plan on sending your kiddo to summer camp, we have a Summer Camp Resources page on the PTSA’s website for you to start your planning. If you’d like to share a summer camp that’s missing, email communications@hazelwolfk8.org.
Hazel Wolf K-8 Spring Auction: This is the final week of our early bird extension with prices at $85 per ticket and will go up to $95 starting on Feb 1. And if you haven’t seen our latest reveal, we already have dozens of items lined up for bidding, but we just shared that we’ll have tickets to a Sounders match, a family photography session, and a guitar with a 30-minute lesson! If any of those get you excited, get your tickets now. This is a 21+ event and will be held at Magnuson Park Hangar 30 from 5:30PM to 9:30PM.
Join Our Green Team: Let’s help our students understand the impact of their choices through hands-on recycling and composting. We’re looking for volunteers to assist in the lunchroom, helping children learn the simple “system” of sorting waste. Help us teach our kids the practical science of taking care of our planet! Sign up through this link.
PTSA Financial Review Volunteers: We need two more volunteers for our annual financial review to help ensure the PTSA’s fiscal health. You’ll simply help review our transactions and procedures to ensure everything is being handled responsibly. No formal accounting background is required, and the total time commitment is only two 2-hour sessions. Please reach out to treasurer@hazelwolf.org if interested!
Community Event – Cirque du Soleil’s ECHO: Join Hazel Wolf families for discounted tickets to Cirque du Soleil’s ECHO, showing from Jan 30 to Mar 22 at Marymoor Park. Navigate to your booking date and grab your tickets through this link for up to 25% off.
Student Shout Outs: Does your child have a moment worth celebrating, whether in sports, academics, the arts, or another area they’ve worked hard on? Email communications@hazelwolfk8.org, and we’ll highlight your student in our monthly PTSA Updates & Events post. Read about our first Student Shout Outs, 4th graders on the Lake City Lightning Lions soccer team.
Lost & Found Information: View this photo album for pictures and videos of the current Lost & Found items. Clothing left for more than 4 weeks will be donated to Kidvantage.
Ongoing Ridwell Plastic Film Pick-ups: We earned free Ridwell plastic film pick-ups this academic year. Drop off your clean and dry plastic film in the Ridwell bin by the school entrance anytime. Learn what can be accepted here.
Recycle Old Shoes: Drop off old and worn-out shoes next to the Ridwell bin by the school entrance anytime. You can also find a location to recycle many other textiles near you.
Join the PTSA as a voting member! Everyone – parents, caregivers, extended family, community members – is encouraged to join the PTSA. Membership does NOT commit you to attending meetings or volunteering. Our goal is to have at least one family member join the PTSA for each student, so we can continue to align our budget and initiatives to our community’s needs.
Stay Updated: Our school’s volunteer-driven Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) strives to build community, support school programs, and help families stay connected through events, fundraisers & more! Here’s how to keep in touch with what’s happening:
