Message from Dr. Breuder:

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Curriculum Night last week! It was wonderful to connect with families and share what students are learning. Your partnership means so much to us! If you attended, please take a few minutes to share your feedback through this link Hazel Wolf K-8 Family Curriculum Night Feedback 2026  – Fill out form. We appreciate hearing your thoughts and ideas as we continue to make these events meaningful for our school community.

Here are a couple things happening this week:

  • Indigenous Peoples’ Day – October 13: Seattle Public Schools joins communities across the nation in recognizing and celebrating the histories, cultures, resilience, and contributions of Indigenous peoples.
  • The Great Washington ShakeOut – October 15: We will participate in this statewide earthquake drill to practice how to stay safe and be prepared in the event of an earthquake.
  • All-School Spirit Day: Decades Day – October 16: Get ready for some fun! Students are invited to wear something inspired by their favorite decade. We can’t wait to see the creativity and school spirit on display!

Thank you for being such an important part of our school community. The partnership between home and school makes a real difference in our students’ lives. I’m grateful for all you do to support our learners, and I look forward to the wonderful things we will continue to accomplish together!

Volunteers Needed: Kindergarten & 1st Grade

We are looking for volunteers to support our Kindergarten and 1st-grade students during Art and Music. Volunteers can help create a positive, welcoming learning environment and provide an extra set of hands to support our youngest learners as they explore their creativity and develop new skills.

If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information about the opportunities and schedule, please reach out to the school. Thank you to the families who are able to share their time and talents with our students!

Racial Equity Training: Interrupting Hate Speech

The Racial Equity Committee is partnering with the Racial Equity Team to offer a special family training on Thursday, November 5, at 5:30 p.m. The topic will be Interrupting Hate Speech.

This session will provide families with an opportunity to learn, reflect, and build practical strategies for responding when harmful or hateful language occurs. We encourage all families to participate in this important conversation as we continue working together to create a school community where every student feels safe, valued, and respected.

More information about the November 5 training will be shared soon.

Volunteering at Hazel Wolf:

If you would like to volunteer at Hazel Wolf, please make sure to fill out the volunteer paperwork and attend a Volunteer Orientation.  Attending a Volunteer Orientation is a requirement to volunteer at Hazel Wolf.  (This orientation is good for two years, so if you attended last year, you do not need to attend this year.) This orientation is online and takes about 15 minutes.  I strongly encourage you to attend the orientation early in the year to get it done instead of waiting right before you plan to volunteer.

Here are the upcoming dates and Teams link:

October 155:00pm
October 269:30am

HWK8 Volunteer Orientation 2026-27

Middle School:

Middle School dance: Friday, October 30th, from 2:10-3:25pm. Students will be able to participate in the dance or in a quiet space. Thanks to the ASB Officers and Leadership class for organizing this fun event!

Athletics:

Thank you to all of our families and students for the amazing support of fall athletics! Registration is now closed for both Girls Soccer and Ultimate Frisbee, with nearly 70 students participating in fall sports this year!

It’s great to see so many Wolves getting involved. Have a wonderful weekend!

PTSA Announcements and Events

Hazel Wolf and the Reign: Join us Saturday Nov 1st at 2pm for a fun soccer match! Kids 12 and under are free! And $5 from the price of an adult ticket goes to the PTSA.

Hazel Wolf ESTEM Quest: Get ready for an adventure! This November, our students are embarking on the Hazel Wolf ESTEM Quest, a 2-week challenge to complete hands-on sustainability tasks at home while raising funds for our school. There will be prizes, photo opportunities, games, and more. Students will make an action pledge to tackle 16 assignments across Waste, Energy, Nature, and Upcycling. Stay tuned for details on how your student can collect sponsorships to support PTSA Teacher Grants!

Environmental Sustainability Initiatives: Please contact Koko (E-STEM board member at estem@hazelwolfk8.org)

  • Ridwell Plastic Film recycling is back: Drop off your clean and dry plastic film in the Ridwell bin by the school entrance anytime. Learn what can be accepted here.
  • Worn-out shoes recycling: Drop off old and worn-out shoes next to the Ridwell bin by the school entrance.
  • Please consider donating to the PTSA so we can continue to run our recycling initiatives to include multilayer plastics and more in the future. By collecting everyday items that standard curbside recycling can’t accept, this drive keeps valuable materials out of local landfills and helps build a sustainable circular economy for our students.
  • Lunchroom food waste education and reduction volunteers needed: To help cut cafeteria waste during our quick lunch periods, tell your students to leave their unopened food to the Share Bin. We are looking for parent volunteers to assist at lunchroom sorting stations and help restart our Green Team! View proposal here.

Mindfulness Parent Group: Take 15 to 30 minutes a week to cultivate self-love and deepen your family connections through simple mindfulness—contact Koko (estem@hazelwolfk8.org) to join our mindfulness parent group!

Lost & Found Information: The Lost & Found is located by the front office.  Parents may access it anytime during office hours.  Students are encouraged to check it before or after school. View the Lost and Found photo album for pictures and videos of the current items. Clothing left for more than 4 weeks will be donated.
