Message from Dr. Breuder:
Happy Spring! It’s hard to believe we have already passed the first day of spring! My son is home for his spring break and it’s nice to have our family-of-three back under the same roof for the week.
As the weather changes, with students wearing more layers with the cold morning and warmer afternoons, we are finding our lost and found even more full. Please make sure clothes are labeled with your child’s name and help remind them to check the lost and found for missing items.
March has been a really busy month, as we have been working through the budget and staffing process for next year. Our budget and staffing allocations are based on projected enrollment numbers, which I shared in February. We did receive a number of reductions in different parts of the school, of which I will explain at the Community Conversation on Wednesday night. Additionally, we have approved the building budget for next year, which includes allocations for different programs and supports for the school and community.
Community Conversation: Please join us for an online meeting to hear about the budget changes and impacts for the 2025-26 school year. Admin will host a meeting on Teams on Wednesday, March 26th, at 5:30pm. Here is the Teams link for this meeting. Hazel Wolf K-8 Community Conversation 3.26.25
Assembly on March 26th: We are having a Women’s History Month assembly on Wednesday, March 26th. This is also a Hazel Wolf Spirit Day, so students and staff are encouraged to wear Hazel Wolf colors (blue and green) or Hazel Wolf gear!

PTSA Announcements and Events
ADHD and the Brain, April 10th, 6-8pm, Cafetorium: Organized by our ADHD Parent Support Group and presented by the UW Autism Center, this PTSA-sponsored educational event is for parents, caregivers and teachers of Hazel Wolf and area schools. We’re delighted to welcome Center director and licensed psychologist, Annette Estes, PhD, and Center behavior and education consultant, John Ketcham, BCBA, to speak on neurodiversity: diagnosis, brain development, strengths, associated research, value, and examples of accommodations/strategies. Snacks will be provided, and K-5 students are welcomed to play games or color in our gym while their guardians enjoy the presentation. More information will be shared soon. Please email Leslie Schuyler at luschuyler@gmail.com if you have questions.
Sonic 3 was a Hit! The K-5 kids had a great time enjoying pizza, snacks and drinks at our PTSA-sponsored movie night last week! Thank you to all the volunteers who helped distribute snacks, move tables, and clean up: Adam Brothers, Andrew Chipperfield, Katy DiSalvo, Emily Heiger, Jenn Johnson-Demel, Chakrya Lim, and Jodie Shaw. We appreciate you!
Ridwell Plastic Film Recycling Drive Continues! Drop your collection of thin, stretchy plastic (think grocery bags, bread bags, bubble wrap, plastic mailers) in the Ridwell bin by the school entrance anytime, or meet us every other Friday at school drop off. Learn what types of plastic film can be accepted. Help us continue diverting hard-to-recycle plastics from landfill! When 10 families sign up for Ridwell doorstep pick up via Ridwell by May 23rd, our school will earn plastic film pickup ALL next year!
PTSA General Session Meeting, April 22nd, 6:30-8pm, Cafetorium: This in-person meeting is open to all and a great way to stay connected with what’s happening in our community! April’s meeting will include updates from Principal Breuder and PTSA committee members, plus a look-ahead to upcoming events, and budget information. Childcare & snacks will be provided. We hope to see you there!
Mid-Year & End-of-Year Fiscal Reviews: We’re still looking for volunteers for the PTSA’s upcoming fiscal reviews. If you’re a PTSA member and would like to help, please email treasurer@hazelwolfk8.org.
Hazel Wolf Mariners Game, March 30th, 1:10pm, T-Mobile Park: Last few days to get $20 tickets for the ball game next weekend (purchase deadline March 28th, 5pm)! Book your Hazel Wolf Mariners Game tickets. Please contact parent volunteer Sabra Warren via sabrahallphoto@gmail.com or 206-931-3613 if you have questions.
TerraCycle School Recycling Drive, now through April 30th, 2025: Let’s all do what we can to keep hard-to-recycle household products out of landfill! Bring your items to the labeled recycle bins by the school entrance. Check what can be collected by TerraCycle, or email estem@hazelwolfk8.org with your questions.
