Message from Dr. Breuder:
I hope you had a relaxing Spring Break! I went to Las Vegas with my partner, Steve, and saw a couple shows and enjoyed some sunshine. My brother and his fiancé happened to be there, as well, so it was fun to spend some time with them. As I am opening my emails and looking at the coming weeks/months, I am preparing myself for a busy spring! This part of the school year is always full!
Multicultural Night: Please join us Thursday, May 1st, from 5:30-7:30 pm in the covered play area. Let’s gather to share a meal and celebrate our community and its many different cultures. Please bring a dish to share or share something that is special to your family, culture, or heritage, including cultural clothing. Come enjoy good food, good conversation and even some entertainment!
Calling all artists!
Please submit artwork for the annual K-8 ART Show. Submissions must have student’s first and last name, grade level and title of the piece.
Please deliver to Ms. Mackin, Ms. Powers or the box labeled art show in the office by April 28.
The show will go up on May 1st for Multicultural night and be in the cafeteria afterwards.
For questions contact: mmmackin@seattleschools.org or ajpowers@seattleschools.org
Yearbooks: Order your 2024-25 Hazel Wolf K-8 Yearbook now through May 1, 2025! The cost per yearbook is $21.00 plus tax. After you place your order, you will receive a receipt from support@yearbookmarket.com. Please note that May 1 is the deadline for students to receive their yearbooks with their classmates at school in June. https://shop.yearbookmarket.com/hazelwolfk8
Spring testing: As mentioned in an earlier message, students will participate in a number of spring assessments. The Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) is the state assessment that students take in grades 3-8. At Hazel Wolf, the SBA testing will take place next week, April 28th-May 2nd. Please make sure your student has their device charged up and ready to go every day, as SBA testing are online assessments. We recognize that these tests do not capture everything about a child, and these scores are just one data point for the Hazel Wolf team to consider. The amazing talents that come out in other spaces (artistry, creativity, musical talents, engineering, sports….and so many more) do not show through these assessments, but we know each child has his/her/their unique qualities. We want students to try their hardest on any assessment administered, but we also want them to continue showing their brilliance in other spaces outside of these assessments.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Families and Seattle Public Schools share a common goal of preventing sexual abuse and fostering safe communities for our children.
Families are invited to an online event called, Talking with Children about Growth and Development and Preventing Sexual Abuse.
Participants will learn about:
- Age-appropriate education students receive in the classroom.
- Policies and training provided to staff.
- How families can engage in these important conversations at home.
We hope you’ll join us! Thursday, April 24th 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. on Teams.
