Message from Dr. Breuder

Over the course of the last two weeks both the Middle School and Elementary School held Curriculum Nights for parents and guardians.  Thank you for attending these sessions.  This is an important time for our staff to share information about curriculum and content specific to each grade-level.

In the “Meet the Administrators” sessions, we shared some information about the demographics of the Hazel Wolf community.  I’m sharing that specific slide with you now, as the question, “How does this information inform our work?” is one that we are thinking about all the time.  Students are on their own identity development journeys, and we are working very hard to support that development in conjunction with teaching important academic content.  The social emotional learning of our students is so important as we are prioritizing teaching the whole child.

As we mentioned at Curriculum Night, we do know the categories listed in this data do not necessarily represent all of our families.  These categories are self-selected by families at the time of enrollment, and we know the categories are limited.  For example, my own family does not necessarily fit into one category, as my children identify in multiple categories.

On Friday, October 11th, Hazel Wolf staff participated in Professional Development across many different topics, including supporting our LGBTQ+ youth.   Just as it is important for us to support children in their racial identity development, it is as important to support their overall identity development.  I know my own upbringing is different than what my children are experiencing….they are learning about themselves and each other in a much more inclusive and supportive environment than when I was school.  Helping our youth feel safe and supported is our number one priority.

Yuen Lui Studio will photograph individual portraits at Hazel Wolf K-8 on Wednesday, October 16 and Thursday, October 17

Families can preorder photos here: 2024-25 Hazel Wolf K-8 Picture Days 10/16, 10/17 (a separate order is required for each student, including siblings)

  • Print preorders will be shipped to the school in approximately three weeks after picture day.
