All School Announcements

Message from Dr. Breuder:

I spent most of last week with 8th-graders at Mt. Rainier Institute (MRI).  It was so great to see our students in this outdoor education program, which consisted of very full days of learning! Students participated in field study and research in old growth forest and at Mt. Rainier, then presented their findings at a science symposium.  We braved all the elements, including sun, rain, and even snow! I was so impressed with the perseverance of our students as they worked together during these four days of outdoor education school.  What an experience.

Staffing adjustments: I want to confirm the October 1st staffing adjustments for Hazel Wolf K-8:

  • We were reduced 2.0 FTE (2 full-time positions) in K-3 staffing as a result of lower enrollment than projected in Spring 2024.
  • Those two reductions have come from the Academic Intervention Specialist (AIS) positions, as both of those were positions were created from allocations for K-3 funding.
  • Amy Hicks is going through the displacement process as a result of these staffing adjustments.  Her last official day at Hazel Wolf was Friday, October 18th.
  • Laurie Caltrider ss changing roles to a Special Education Paraprofessional on the K-5 Resource team.  This change will take place starting Monday, October 21st

We know these changes are a huge impact on our programming at Hazel Wolf, especially in our K-3 classes, and we are doing our best to continue to support our students with all of these changes.

Middle School News:

Middle School Dance: The first Middle School Dance for this year is Friday, November 1st, from 6:00-8:00pm.  Stay tuned for more details!
