Message from Dr. Breuder:

It is hard to believe October is coming to a close this week! The fall is always a whirlwind of activity.  This weekend was great for me to slow down and spend some time with my daughter.  We are adjusting to life at home with just the two of us, even though my son is nearby at the UW.  I’ve been supporting her with her time management and organizational skills in juggling her classes as a junior this year.  Although I have been through this before with my son, it is different (every child is so different) with my daughter, and I am facing different challenges as a parent.  This made me think of discussion at the PTSA General meeting about parent education.  I know we are all doing our best, but we know parenting can be hard.  I believe in education for all of us (me included) so we can best support our children.  We are always looking for topics that are of interest and relevant for parents, so please reach out to us about things that arise that we can help address in more depth.

Conferences: SPS has set aside specific days for conferences.  These days are no-school days for students and are a time for parents/guardians to meet with teachers.  In the next few weeks, you will receive a Sign-Up link from your child’s teacher (grades K-5).  For middle school, you will get information by the end of this week about the format for middle school conferences.  These are the times set aside for Hazel Wolf conferences.

  • Thursday, November 21. 4:00-8:00pm
  • Monday, November 25, 8:00-5:30pm
  • Tuesday, November 26, 8:00-5:00pm.

Middle School News:

Middle School Dance: Due to circumstances outside of our control regarding ASB policy (including constitution and bylaws), we have been directed to postpone the Middle School dance to a later date.  (The Leadership Class is working on the ASB constitution and bylaws to present to the School Board for approval, after which we can reschedule the dance.)  The Leadership Class is also working the plans for in-school event for the middle school.  Stay tuned for more details! Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

PTSA Announcements and Events

Winter Ski Bus Informational Meeting, Oct. 28th, 6pm, Online
We offer two Ski Bus options for our students starting in January (Wednesdays, grades 3-8 and Fridays, grades 5-8). Learn more about these programs and how to register your student(s), join Mr Smith via Microsoft Teams.

Ridwell Plastic Film Recycling Drive, Nov. 1st, School Entrance
We invite you to help keep plastic film out of landfills this fall! Bring your collection to school drop off or pick up on Friday, November 1st, and Ridwell will partner with Trex to turn it into decking planks! Find out what types of plastic film are accepted.

Our E-STEM Team needs volunteers to help with collection drop offs on November 1st. Please email parent volunteer Koko for more info and to sign up: peculiaromen@gmail.com

Curious about at-home recycling pickup from Ridwell? They collect hundreds of common household items you can’t recycle curbside, like plastic food packaging, lightbulbs, clothes, and Styrofoam. Sign up for Ridwell by December 15th and your membership will count toward rewards for our school. Just 20 signups will earn our school a field trip to the local Ridwell warehouse!

3rd Annual Winter Clothing & Ski Swap, Nov. 2nd, 11am-4pm, Cafetorium
Get outfitted for winter and help raise money for our school! Open to the public, this event features gently used winter apparel and ski/snowboard gear. There will also be new apparel and gear to purchase, courtesy of Hazel Wolf family-owned Dusty’s Ski Shop.

Not a skier? No problem! This event is for everyone! Get the winter layers you need to keep you and your family warm and dry during the cold months ahead. And if you do ski or snowboard – make sure you’re ready to head into the mountains once the snow hits! Full information, including how and when to consign your items.

This is a popular, public event and it takes a lot of volunteers to run smoothly. Sign up at  to help with consignment drop offs, event set up, support, and closing up.

K-5 Family Movie Night, Nov. 15th, 6:30-8:30pm, Cafetorium
Come join us for this free, PTSA-sponsored event! Bring blankets and pillows to cozy up on the Cafetorium floor. Low-backed chairs can also be set up behind those seated on the floor. Siblings welcome! We will be screening the PG-rated movie IF, about a girl who discovers that she can see everyone’s imaginary friends—and what she does with that superpower—as she embarks on a magical adventure to reconnect forgotten IFs with their kids. Watch the movie If trailer.

Volunteer Needs
We’re still looking for parent reps for a few classes, including 8th grade.
