All School Announcements

Message from Dr. Breuder:

This last week our students participated in the first Buddy Day of the school year.  Each class is paired with an older-grade class or group.  The purpose of our Buddy Program includes creating cross grade-level interactions and connections between students and staff, building additional trusted adult relationships for students, creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment of students of different ages, and incorporating social emotional skills across our K-8 school.  Buddy Days happen one Wednesday per month.

Picture day: Please note the two days set aside for Picture Day (October 16 and 17).  These dates are when 8th-grade is at Mt. Rainier Institute (MRI), so all 8th-graders will take pictures on re-take day, November 19th.

Music teacher interviews: We are looking for a parent/guardian to sit on the hiring team for the Music teacher position.  Interviews are scheduled for Tuesday, September 24th, starting at 4:00pm.  If you have attended the required SEA interview training and are available to sit on this hiring team, please let me know as soon as possible.

Picking up students during the day: Please make sure to contact the office if you need to pick up your student during the school day.  Students are not to have cell phones or other devices out during the day, so please contact the office directly for any early pick-ups.

Overnight Outdoor Information Session: We are holding an Overnight Outdoor Information Session for families in Grades 4, 5, and 8.  These grades will participate in Overnight Outdoor Education programs this year, so please plan to attend! We will have multilingual interpreters onsite.  Parents and guardians can learn more about these programs and fill out registration at this event.

Wednesday, September 25th, 5:30-6:30pm in the Hazel Wolf Cafeteria.

Message from Ms. Sullivan

Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety in PE

The Bike Trailer is being dropped off by the Cascade Bicycle Club on Wednesday, September 24th, and we will start riding bikes on Sept. 26th. Students are encouraged to bring their own helmet that fits properly. If they do not have a helmet, one will be provided for them, and a hair net will be provided to protect everyone using shared helmets from lice.

Helmets and pedestrian safety is Day 1, and we will ride bikes on Day 2. The first week’s classes are: Mrs. Einstein, Ms. Bell, and Ms. York. Their unit will be split between 2 weeks and will conclude on October 14th.

  1. September 30th-October 4th Classes: Smith, Armbrust, Thomashow
  2. October 7th-11th: Dolin, Grandbois, Ogburn
  3. October 14th: Einstein, Bell, York (Last day of unit)

I will also send a Talking Point reminder the weekend before your student is supposed to participate. Email with any questions: rasullivan@seattleschools.org, or contact me on Talking Points.

-Ms. Sullivan

Middle School News:

If your child is in Middle School P.E., they MUST wear athletic shoes (no slides, crocs, boots, etc…). They will not be allowed to participate starting October 1st and their grade will reflect that. If your family needs financial assistance to get shoes, please contact me at panelson@seattleschools.org
