Message from Dr. Breuder:
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! We have an exciting week ahead at Hazel Wolf K-8, including our annual Curriculum Night this Wednesday, October 7, from 5:00–7:30 p.m. We look forward to welcoming families into classrooms to learn more about what students are learning, classroom expectations, and how you can partner with us to support your child’s success this year. We hope to see you there!
K-8 Principal Meeting at Hazel Wolf
On Tuesday, October 7, Hazel Wolf K-8 will also host the K-8 Principal Meeting. This is an opportunity for school leaders from across our K-8 schools to come together, share ideas, and align practices across our K-8 communities. These conversations help us learn from one another and strengthen consistency in how we support students, families, and staff across our schools.
We are proud to have the opportunity to host our K-8 colleagues and look forward to the collaboration and learning that will take place.
K-5 Wolf Pact Assembly
This week, our K-5 students will come together for a Wolf Pact Assembly. This will be an opportunity to revisit the values that help define who we are as a Hazel Wolf community. Our Wolf Pact reminds us that we strive to be Curious, Caring, Connected, and Supported.
We will talk with students about what these words look and sound like in our classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, and throughout our school community. We want every student to understand that being a Wolf means being curious about learning, caring for ourselves and others, staying connected to our community, and making sure that we all feel supported.
A Look at Our School and District Goals
Thank you to the families who joined us for the PTSA General Meeting last week. We appreciated the opportunity to share more about our school and district priorities.
At the district level, our work is focused on improving student outcomes that ultimately contribute to increasing graduation rates across Seattle Public Schools. At Hazel Wolf K-8, two important areas of focus are:
- 3rd-grade literacy: Strengthening foundational literacy skills so students are prepared for continued success as readers and learners.
- 8th-grade mathematics: Ensuring students develop the mathematical knowledge and skills they need to successfully transition to high school and beyond.
These goals are part of our broader commitment to ensuring that every student has access to high-quality instruction, the supports they need, and meaningful opportunities to thrive.
Volunteers Needed: Kindergarten & 1st Grade
We are looking for volunteers to support our Kindergarten and 1st-grade students during Art and Music. Volunteers can help create a positive, welcoming learning environment and provide an extra set of hands to support our youngest learners as they explore their creativity and develop new skills.
If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information about the opportunities and schedule, please reach out to the school. Thank you to the families who are able to share their time and talents with our students!
Racial Equity Training: Interrupting Hate Speech
The Racial Equity Committee is partnering with the Racial Equity Team to offer a special family training on Thursday, November 5, at 5:30 p.m. The topic will be Interrupting Hate Speech.
This session will provide families with an opportunity to learn, reflect, and build practical strategies for responding when harmful or hateful language occurs. We encourage all families to participate in this important conversation as we continue working together to create a school community where every student feels safe, valued, and respected.
More information about the November 5 training will be shared soon.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for being an important part of the Hazel Wolf community. We look forward to seeing many of you at Curriculum Night on October 7!

This orientation is online and takes about 15 minutes. I strongly encourage you to attend the orientation early in the year to get it done instead of waiting right before you plan to volunteer.
