Message from Dr. Breuder:

I hope you had a restful and relaxing Winter Break! I was able to spend some time with my family in Mexico (Puerto Vallarta) during the break.  It was great to unplug, soak up a little sun, and read some good books.  As I reflected on 2023 during this break, I was thinking about how happy I am to be a part of the Hazel Wolf community.  I have been (and continue to be) so impressed with the hard work that is happening across the community, and am so enjoying getting to know the students, families, and staff here at Hazel Wolf.  I recognize that change is hard…this is a transition for everyone, and change can bring about fear and anxiety.  But I also know that change is an opportunity, which can bring about new and/or different learnings, perspectives, and growth.  As someone who has been an educator for 25 + years, I am also a lifelong learner.  I learn something new every day, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue that growth within the Hazel Wolf community.

As we go into these next few months, I want to recognize that this is a busy time of year.  Our budget and staffing process for next school year gets especially busy in February and March.  There are many parts to this process, including looking at how we are utilizing our current budget and staffing allocations, what our allocations are for this next year (this information comes out to schools in mid-February), then creating a budget and staffing scenario that is most efficient with those allocations.  As there are many people involved in this process, including the Hazel Wolf staff and Building Leadership Team, this takes a lot of coordination and planning for adequate time during the process.  We also work in conjunction with the Hazel Wolf PTSA to help coordinate our plan for next year.  You will see messages from me with different pieces of information, as well as opportunities for input and feedback.  Thank you, in advance, for your help, as it is critical for us to hear from all parts of our community in this important process.

School Tours: We have scheduled three tours for prospective families to learn more about Hazel Wolf K-8.

Middle School

A letter was sent to Middle School families on December 15 about Middle School scheduling for next semester.  Your middle school student will complete their elective choice form in Pack this week.

Elective placement is determined by the elective options available during the periods a student has elective openings in their schedule. Most electives are offered only one or two periods during the day and a student’s preference may not fit into their schedule. Student input is considered. Student input is not a guarantee of electives.

We believe middle school is a time for students to explore a variety of interests. Please review the elective offerings for second semester with your student and discuss which electives they are interested in exploring.
