Message from Dr. Breuder:

It’s been a very busy first month of 2024! We conducted three school tours (thank you to all the parent, student, and staff volunteers), represented Hazel Wolf at the SPS Admissions Fair, and held our annual Multilingual Family Enrollment Night.  Open Enrollment is right now (February 1-29), so we are helping provide prospective families with information about Hazel Wolf as they make choices for next year.

Thank you for all your kind messages about Ms. Mah’s passing, as well as the supportive messages about the upcoming staffing changes.  We are doing our very best to make this a smooth transition for our community.

Lunar New Year: Happy Lunar New Year! Lunar New Year started on February 10th and lasts for 15 days.  This year is the Year of the Dragon.  The dragon is a central figure in Chinese culture, which represents vigor, strength and good fortune, among other powerful attributes.  Lunar New Year, or Spring Festival, is celebrated in Asian communities across the globe — including China, Korea and Vietnam — as it marks the end of one year and the arrival of spring.  I am including a link to local area celebrations for Lunar New Year.  I tried to schedule a Lion Dance assembly for our students but missed the deadline in scheduling.  I’ll make sure to schedule it early for next Lunar New Year!

Black History Month: This last week was the start of Black History Month and Black Lives Matter in Schools week.  I am including the link to Seattle Public Schools site, showcasing the Pan-African Flag Raising ceremony and other highlights in SPS.  Hazel Wolf teachers and staff facilitated a variety of lessons and activities across our school, many of which were highlighted in newsletters and can be seen on walls in classrooms and in the school.

Lost and Found is full again!  Please come to see if any of your child’s things are here.

The time for new students to register to attend Hazel Wolf for the 2024-2025 school year is coming up soon!  The window to submit a choice application for an Option School is February 1 through February 29.  We want to reach out and give a special welcome to families who may be new to the country and who speak languages other than English.   We need YOUR help.  Do you have relatives, neighbors, or friends that speak a language other than English who are interested in enrolling at Hazel Wolf?  If you do, contact Rachel Projansky at raprojansky@seattleschools.org with any information you have and the Multilingual Enrollment Team will reach out to you soon.

Middle School:

Spring Ultimate:   Middle schoolers interested in playing ultimate frisbee (or have questions about the game) should email Lars Boettcher larspboettcher15@gmail.com.  Practices will be Tuesdays and Thursdays starting February 27th.  Students will need to sign up through DiscNW in order to play. All middle school grades and skill levels are encouraged to check out this fantastic sport.

Open House:

  • The Center School will be hosting an Open House for prospective students and families on Thursday, February 15, 2024,  from 5:30 – 7:30 pm (flyer and parking pass attached).

Interested students and parents should RSVP using the QR code on the flyer or the link here: https://forms.office.com/r/AzHG5qUrp5

For more information about The Center School, we invite you to take a virtual school tour linked here: https://vimeo.com/703976333/ad1b681004

PTSA Announcements and Events

  • School Tours:  Thank you to Kim Steffensmeier and the wonderful volunteers who took the time to share their love of our school with prospective community members!  We had a great turnout for the tours and hope some of those who toured will come join our Wolf Pack.
  • PTSA General Session: Join your fellow members of the Hazel Wolf Community on February 15 from 6:30 to 8pm in the Cafetorium to learn about upcoming PTSA events – including the Spring Fling!  The meeting is also an opportunity to get your questions answered by Principal Breuder and the Administration team.  Thank you for all the questions submitted so far – you can continue to submit questions if you didn’t make the February 7th deadline!!  Please keep them coming!

You can continue to submit questions using the google form: bit.ly/3u98bSJ
Any questions not answered at the meeting will be answered either in another meeting, as part of a Q&A spotlight in the bulletin, or in some other creative way.  Principal Breuder and Vice Principals Kristin Eckert and Jason Winston feel strongly about the importance of transparent communication to our community.

  • Spring Fling! Tickets are now on sale for Hazel Wolf K-8 PTSA’s first in-person fundraiser in FIVE YEARS!! Mingle with friends and meet new families during an evening of dinner, drinks, live music and dancing.
