Message from Dr. Breuder:

I hope you are staying warm during this cold weather! I grew up in the PNW and remember many snow days over the years.  As a child, I loved the excitement of the anticipation of snow and continuously looking out the window to see those first few flakes falling.  As an adult (and as a parent), the idea of snow days has brought different meaning.  The thought of my teenage children driving in the snow or ice terrifies me, although I might just be kicking into overprotective mom-mode.  As an educator, I still love the idea of snow, but I also worry about the missed days of instruction.  Additionally, I worry about the health and safety of community members when the temperatures drop….I know having a warm place to stay is a privilege, and I recognize that the cold weather does not bring excitement and anticipation for everyone.

We have sent home student devices in preparation for the possibility of snow days.  You will receive a message from SPS about the status of school.  If we do have to shift to a Snow Day plan, you will hear from your child’s teacher about specific schedules.  Please know that we do understand the many challenges that come with an online learning plan.  This is a last resort for SPS if we do have any snow days.

Drop-off reminders: Morning drop off was awesome prior to break.  Below is a review to keep us all safe:

  1. Drivers: One Way on 12th Ave. 8:35AM-9AM, cars may only drive north on 12th Ave.
  2. Drive/ Walkers: 12th Ave is for carpool drop off, not walkers.  The safe crosswalk to walk your student to the school building is on 117th.
  3. Drivers, drop students off in the Drop Off Zone NORTH of the driveway.
  4. Students exit on the passenger / sidewalk side, NOT the driver side.
  5. Drivers, please stay in the car while your student exits to the sidewalk.

Creative mind? Hazel Wolf is looking to create new hallway expectations posters and Wolf Pact posters. We are looking for a parent volunteer with a background in design to help us create posters that are both functional and look nice in our hallways. If You would like to possibly volunteer and have questions, please email Jason Winston the assistant principal jtwinston@seattleschools.org. Thank you for considering helping our school PBIS team with this project!

Summer opportunity:

  • AileyCamp2024 applications open:

AileyCamp is a FREE, fun-filled, five-week summer day camp where young people ages 11–14 learn to use dance and creativity as drivers for personal development. The program helps youth build their self-confidence in an atmosphere of warmth, respect, and trust. Campers take daily dance classes from experienced teaching artists in popular styles such as Tap, Jazz, Ballet, and the Lester Horton technique (which is the basis of many of Alvin Ailey’s works). Campers also participate in workshops to build leadership and communication skills; all culminating into a final Free Public Performance on stage at the Moore Theater!

The 2023 camp was a complete success with sixty empowered and inspired middle school students completing the full program! The graduating campers had the experience of a lifetime learning more about themselves in their personal development classes where they studied nutrition, conflict resolution, drug prevention, critical thinking, and other life skills – areas that support them in school, at home, and in all areas of their life.

June 26 – July 31, 2024; 8:30AM – 2:30PM

Beach Park Event Center in Des Moines.

**Tuition, food, transportation, and camp attire are all provided.**
