All School Announcements

1. E-STEM MS Career Day – Call for presenters: We’ve had to reschedule career day and have room for more presenters. Career day will happen on Tuesday, June 27, 2023. Students will hear from professionals and academics working in STEM fields, many with an Environmental focus. If you work in a STEM field, please consider being a presenter. We need people who work with environmental topics or who engage in environmentally thoughtful practices in your chosen field. But the STEM field is key. Or if you know anyone who might be interested, please have them contact me. Presenters have two 45-minute sessions with about 18 students in each session. The time commitment would be from 8:45AM to about 11:10AM on Tues, June 27. Contact Joe Fogarty at jcbaileyfogart@seattleschools.org.
2. Book Bonanza – As a result of generous donations from PTSA, the community, and student families, this free event allows all K-8 students to select books to keep! Classes will browse the HUGE selection of books (from early readers to Young Adult) June 21st – 23rd during class library times, lunch recesses, before and after school.  Friday afternoon we will encourage students to revisit the Bonanza and select more books to ensure all families have enough to read all summer!  There is also an opportunity to help with the Book Bonanza
3. Field Day – Hello families! Field Day is coming up on Wednesday, June 28th, and we need volunteers to help run stations and facilitate activities. This year things will be a lot more structured But just as fun! Ms. Sullivan & Ms. Nelsen have planned 11 (Eleven!!!) Stations of awesome for each class to rotate through this year! The K-2 cohort has a lot of volunteers so far, but our 3-5 & Middle School cohorts really need our support, so if you are able, please sign up to help out! Volunteer Opportunities

1. Join the Racial Equity Committee (REC) —Our goals are focused on helping students and families of color and those who are furthest from educational justice (intersectionality with race, ability, language, gender, socio-economic status, etc). We are open to all families joining and we prioritize Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) for the committee. 
   
   With this help we can continue to support Student Affinity Groups, host listening sessions for BIPOC, work with PTSA and school staff to advocate for racial equity practices in our school, and more! To learn more or join the REC, email ptsa_rec@hazelwolfk8.org.

   In most cases, you do not need to have your school volunteer paperwork completed to help out our school!  There are both big and small jobs, the important thing is to just get involved.  Questions/ Comments? Summer Opportunities & Supports

• Roosevelt Youth Summer Volleyball Camp –  This camp provides a safe and fun environment for student athletes to learn the game of volleyball, improve their volleyball skills, gain friends, and have lots of fun! The camp for 3rd to 5th graders is being held July 10-13 from 9am to 12pm in the Roosevelt High School Gym. • Camp Invention – Camp Invention® is bringing new, imaginative experiences for grades K-6 back to Hazel Wolf K-8 the week of July 10 to 14! Register for the all-new program, Wonder. Use promo code SUM15 by 5/17/23 to save $15!
• Free Swim Lessons Registration starts May 16, 2023.  Making sure your kids know how to swim is a great way to introduce them to a healthy activity and help protect them from drowning. Your kids may be eligible for free lessons through a new Seattle initiative, Swim Seattle, or through a scholarship from Seattle Parks & Recreation.   Sign up for Swim Seattle by contacting  your local city pool. 
• Learn about Seattle Parks & Recreation swim programs and scholarships, go to Priority Registration for Scholarship Eligible Participants.
• Boys and Girls Club Rainier Vista Summer Camp – limited availability!   Flat fee, some scholarships available. Sign up for Boys and Girls Club Rainier Vista Summer Camp. 206-436-1890
• Arc of King County hosts summer child care/camps at a number of community centers throughout the city of Seattle including Van Asselt, South Park, Rainier Beach, Jefferson and more! Scholarships are available. 
• Kids Co. at Southshore.   Kids Co. at South Shore weekly summer camps and afterschool care for 2023/2024. Some financial assistance available. 
• Activate summer at the Y!  Registration is open for summer at the Y day camps.   Locations include Bailey Gazert Elementary, Concord Elementary and Thurgood Marshall Elementary.
• Launch – Launch Summer Learning at Beacon Hill Elementary, Madrona Elementary, Miller Community Center and Maple Elementary.  Some financial assistance is available.
• Learn to play an instrument at Summer Jazz Prep Camp! Summer Jazz Prep Camp! No experience is required.  Sliding scale with free tuition option.  Open to any students going into grades 4ththrough 8th. 
• The Play Garden offers a fully inclusive nature-based summer camp experience for kids with disabilities and their typically developing peers.  Wait list only for summer Play Garden camps as of 5/15.   Free play time at the Play Garden is available throughout the summer.
• Camp Lucy – Camp Lucy in Seattle is a FREE 10-day learn-to-row camp for girls, that uses rowing as a way to learn social-emotional skills and life skills. Camp Lucy is designed to intentionally increase access to rowing for those who have been historically excluded from rowing, in particular girls, people of color, and those facing socio-economic barriers. Lunch, snacks, and a Camp Lucy t-shirt are provided for all campers, and transportation and gear support is available.
• Seward Park Audubon Summer Day Camp  A limited number of 30%, 50% and 100% scholarships available. 
• Seattle Children Theater – Seattle Children Theater has week long camps throughout the summer.  Scholarship and financial aid available.  
• Hugo House – Hugo House offers writing workshops for students in 4th-8th grade.  Payment is sliding scale.   
• The Frye Art Museum – Frye Art Museum is always free! 
• The Seattle Asian Art Museum – Seattle Art Museum, Volunteer Park is free to children 14 years and younger.  Other discounts are available for all Seattle Art Museums 
• Seattle Public Schools offers a week of music for students 5th grade and up.   See website for more information.  
• Seattle Public Schools also has a list of community partner summer activities.
• Seattle Public Library – Seattle Public Library offers the “summer of learning” yearly for students.  
• King County libraries offer summer fun to encourage reading as well.  
• Kids Bowl Free! Kids get two free games of bowling every day throughout the summer! Register!

• SODO Community Market.   SODO Community Market This food bank is open to all!  No ID or proof of income required.  Located at 1915 4th Ave South.   See website for hours. 
• ACRS – Asian Counseling and Referral Services 206-695-7510.  Distributes foods that cater to Asian American and Pacific Islander diets, including healthy and nutritious staples like rice, tofu, soy milk, noodles, canned proteins and produce. The food bank is located at 800 S Weller St, Seattle , WA 98104.
